Building What the Old Codes Tried to Prevent.
Our
Story
"The Black Codes of the post-Civil War South were designed with one purpose — to limit what Black people could build, own, express, and sustain. More than 150 years later, the institutions those codes tried to prevent still face systemic underfunding, administrative fragility, and strategic neglect. Code of the South exists as a direct response — building the infrastructure, strategy, and sustainability frameworks that Black cultural organizations across the South deserve."
